For my home project, I am planning on doing an emroidered fiber piece. I want to continue my fruit (specifically strawberry) subject but also go a slightly different direction with this piece. I want to explore embroidery in my future pieces, so this will be a good learning experience. I plan to buy the supplies soon and begin on the actual piece. It's been difficult to figure out if I want to keep it specific to strawberries or branch out to other fruits. I plan to branch out because I have more ideas to use fruit for my focus concept. I decided to keep the strawberry theme for a little bit and branch out once I feel I have finished what I want with my first subject.

For my in-class project, I am making a color pencil piece. I am using Prismacolor pencils to color this drawing. I made my own reference picture in an editing app, in order to make sure the proportions were correct. It has been difficult to figure out a good palette to create a specific mood, instead of just using the same palette as my reference photo. After figuring out a general direction for my palette, I have been able to slowly start working on getting the color down. I feel like I am in a good place with the piece right now.

The first image shown was from when I first began to color and, after layering more colors, I was able to make the progress shown in the second image.

For two weeks in class, we practiced our figure drawing skills with artist Thommy Van Aucken. We went over gesture drawings, contour drawings, and value. This was a very valuable learning experience and I feel like I have gained more comfort in confidence in my ability to draw the human figure. We spent most of our time practicing gesture drawing and, with each example I've added above, there was gesture drawing involved in the process. I had very little experience with gesture drawing before these but I found that I very much enjoy doing it. I aim to involve more figure drawings in my future art and will utilise my new gesture drawings skills in that process. At the end of the two weeks, we did a twenty minute drawing using gesture, contour, and value to connect all of the pieces of what we learned. I am happy with how it turned out for my first time doing it. I hope to improve my use of value and my proportions in the future. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and it has opened me up to a new way of making art.
