Hundley's Works:

Breakfast of Undesirables, 11.5" x 12.5", mixed (watercolor, gouache, acrylic on board)

This is a great example of Hundley's artwork and personal style. He uses pattern and color to create a certain mood in his work. This piece is a mixed media piece with each type of paint being used to create a different texture. One of the things I admire most about this is the surreal aspect of the sheep floating around the main subject. They look almost like clouds or puffs of smoke but they are turned into sheep. I want to try incorporating more surrealism into my art so this is a good inspiration.

Commissioned by Creative Director Loic Zimmermann at Luma Pictures to gather support for an in-production feature film.

This artwork is a comission created for a movie. This is a good example of his commercial commission work that he does. The reason I chose this piece to talk about is because of its interesting use of negative space. I am looking for ways to incorporate large amounts of negative white space in my work and I think this is an effective example of that. The work also hints at shadows which is effective to hint at some sort of a background.

Overall, Sterling Hundley is a good artist to look at both for his style as well as his success in commercial work. I will use some of the inspiration I got from researching him moving forward.

We went to see the winning pieces for the Scholastic Art Awards as a class. I found this very interesting because I only ever really get to see art from students at the school. Seeing a pool of different pieces from all over the area was very cool.

One of my favorite things is seeing the mediums people are using. There were puppets, sculptures, paintings, collages, and photography. I was very inspired by the creativity in all of the pieces. I got new ideas for ways to use certain mediums and ways to imporve my art in terms of composiiton and color palettes.

Another piece of knowledge I got from seeing this is what is appealing in a piece of art to judges and reviewers. I don't want to make art based entirely off of someone elses tastes, especially since they are unpredictable. However, knowing what makes art appealing is important especially if you plan to sell your work commercially. I have an interest into going into commercial art and selling my own art so this is very valuable for me to understand.

Overall, this exhibit gave me a fresh outlook on art and let me see the work of other artists in my area that I would've never seen otherwise.
