Scholastic Art Awards

We went to see the winning pieces for the Scholastic Art Awards as a class. I found this very interesting because I only ever really get to see art from students at the school. Seeing a pool of different pieces from all over the area was very cool.

One of my favorite things is seeing the mediums people are using. There were puppets, sculptures, paintings, collages, and photography. I was very inspired by the creativity in all of the pieces. I got new ideas for ways to use certain mediums and ways to imporve my art in terms of composiiton and color palettes.

Another piece of knowledge I got from seeing this is what is appealing in a piece of art to judges and reviewers. I don't want to make art based entirely off of someone elses tastes, especially since they are unpredictable. However, knowing what makes art appealing is important especially if you plan to sell your work commercially. I have an interest into going into commercial art and selling my own art so this is very valuable for me to understand.

Overall, this exhibit gave me a fresh outlook on art and let me see the work of other artists in my area that I would've never seen otherwise.
