Little Thunder (Cheng Sum-ling) is an artist from Hong Kong based in Tokyo. She bagn doing illustrations and creating manga. Her current art uses mostly a variety of different paints. Her works are large scale for the most part. She uses a lot of surrealism and fantastical elements in her artwork.
Artworks:
REALITY DROPOUT, 2022, Acrylic on Canvas, 120 x150 x 3 cm
This piece of artwork is so cool. The style of painting she does makes everything more saturated. The figures look realistic technically but the colors are pushed in a way where it looks more graphic. I love her use of background in this artwork.
Closer Than You Thought, 2022, Acrylic and Gouache on Canvas
This artwork is so surreal and the color scheme is very interesting. I love the use of bright colors throughout her work. The color scheme really adds to the surreal nature and this piece is one of my favorites of hers.

One thing that I really appreciate about Little Thunder's art and career is that she does illustration type pieces that arent hyperrealistic and she is still incredibly successful. I often feel discouraged that the type of art that I enjoy making is not marketable and is oversaturated in the art community. Little Thunder proves that you can make this type of work but still make it unique and personal, which makes it stand out against the rest.
