This quarter, we had our last lunchtime lecture of the year. This is also the final lunchtime lecture to take place while I am a part of the honors society's events team. I had a great time getting to work on holding these lunchtime lectures and this was a very good lecture to end on.
Summer is an artist who makes hand carved pottery pieces. Pictured above, is one of her pieces. She specifically reffered to her process of sculpting her pieces and carving out drawings. I have not seem much of this method executed in art before so her art is very unique and interesting to me.
One of the most valuable parts of her presentation was her description of how she has become a full time artist and how she sells/prices her work. She shared that she used to teach art, but, during quarantine, she was able to finally get a better studio space and work more on her personal art. She talked about how she is now a full-time artist who is able to sell her work through social media and artist alleys. Another part of this discussion that I found interesting was how she was able to use previous connections to find opportunities to show her work. One of her professors from college even requested to buy a vase from her, which showed the importance of keeping in otuch with contacts.
While I do not plan to go to art school, I am still very intruiged by hearing her journey from art school to a career in the arts.
